Study Guide 18: Rising Above Emotion into the Thinking of God
July 3, 2026
Dear Believers, Friends & Fellow Students,
As-Salaam Alaikum!
As we reflect on the precious life of Mother Khadijah Farrakhan, we are thankful for her demonstration of love and for her sacrifice. May Allah be pleased with her and comfort the family and believers as we mourn this tremendous loss.
Let us strive to apply what we have been studying, knowing that the goal is not to get rid of or silence our emotions, but to Rise Above Emotion Into The Thinking of God.
Let us continue to make sure that we follow these words of guidance from the Honorable Minister Louis Farrakhan.
“As we step into the shoes of each character, both those who were successful and those who failed, we want to try and “feel” what that person must have felt when Allah (God) tried them with certain commands. In order to be successful in such an effort, we must summon up the same emotional reaction to the command that was theirs and then see by what means we can overcome the emotional reaction to God’s command.”
May Allah continue to bless us with Love and the Light of Understanding!
Assignment:
Take time to review our study from last week:
Read & Discuss:
Study Guide 18: Rising Above Emotion into the Thinking of God
Section titled THROUGH QUESTIONING ALLAH (GOD) IN THE RIGHT SPIRIT, WE MAY BE SAVED.
This week we will read this section in its entirety.
Discussion Questions (*these are not official questions from the Study Guide):
- Job questioned Allah without cursing Him, while Cain's emotional reaction led him away from God. What do you believe allowed Job to question God in the right spirit? What must we develop in ourselves to respond the same way?
- The study guide describes a trial so intense it can bring on feelings of abandonment or depression. Have you ever felt that Allah had "hidden His face" from you? What is required to get through (be very specific, with the words and/or actions)?
- We walked in the footsteps of some who may not have responded optimally to God’s trials. Now let’s walk in the shoes of someone who was successful through trial: Job. What are the thoughts and actions you believe he had that got him through?
Note: Please take a moment to review the words of Minister Ava and how the coordinators should assist in facilitating an environment that makes participants feel comfortable and safe to share.
